Forms and conventions of Film review pages

A couple of key terms...

BLEED- where the image covers two pages. Normally positioned centrally to catch the reader's attention.

CALLOUT- text lifted from the article and then enlarged to grab attention. It usually attempts to hook the reader in to reading the article.

In "EMPIRE" magazine many of the pages contain references to their website to encourage readers to visit. "EMPIRE" has a lot of interactivity which means greater profits from advertising.
-Opposite colours are used to make headings to stand out. For instance black and orange is regularly used throughout the magazine. Neutral, white, background also helps the colours stand out.
-Bordering adds a more professional look to the page and makes it appear neat and tidy.
